As we build more complex partnerships we need to work harder to demonstrate the shared value of the partnership, sharing our resources becomes more important, and the management of key stakeholders more essential for an effective outcome. The Collaboration Rubric® shows how partnerships develop by describing the relationship between four types of collaboration (Communicate, Coordinate, Cooperate, Create) and three drivers (Capacity, Value and Authority).

The Collaboration Rubric ® can be used by any partnership, large or small, at any stage in the development of their collaboration. Whether you are a small two-person team in the early stages of a defining your shared goals, or a multi-agency team of 1000 who have been trying to achieve a shared outcome for years, the Collaboration Rubric® can help you achieve your goals.

The Collaboration Rubric® is a framework designed to guide you through the process of creating sustainable collaborations that are fit for purpose. It can help you:

  • Determine what type of collaboration you need to achieve your goals
  • Guide staff towards a common language and understanding of how collaboration works and what makes it succeed
  • Identify the strengths and weaknesses of your current collaborative practice
  • Make recommendations on what changes are needed to deliver the type of collaboration you are seeking to achieve.
  • Allow you to measure your progress as you instigate changes
  • Grow your organisation's capacity to engage in more successful collaborations over time
